My favorite part of this unit was the market day project because we got food and because it was fun experience. My lease favorite part of the unit was our test was actually quite hard and also the extension was very hard! Phase 2 of the market day project was really frustrating because we had find all our products and compare them. For the next year market day students should be allowed to buy more than three things per round and also be able to make really cool booths! When Mr. Jobe said that we could do our own work I feel that it helped me personally because I did all the work he asked and use my time wisely in class.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite part of this unit was Market day because we got to have a lot of fun while also using our brains to make wise decisions. We also had to calculate percentages and things, so that included math. We were able to learn while having fun. Also, we got to taste other peoples products.
ReplyDeleteMy least favorite part of this unit was the three part test at the end because we had a lot of things to do in one math class. Also, some of the questions were quite difficult and we had to use our brains a lot to think about problem solving techniques.
The most challenging part of this unit was making decisions on marketplace day to improve our sales. It was hard because one wrong decision could impact our sales. We had to use our brains to make our decisions to maximize our profit.
Some things that could be improved for Market day next year is: to be allowed to cook our product in the food tech rooms, etc. as long as we bring in our ingredients so we can all work together because sometimes it is hard to meet up and 1 person ends up doing all of the work.
The approach to let us do what we want to prepare for the 3 part test helped me as a learner because I knew my own strong and weak points, so I know what I need to work on. If we all did it as a class, we might be revising for things that some people could be really good at, but others are not so good, so it is not fair for the people that are good at it. Being independent lets us work on the areas we think we need to.

ReplyDelete2. My least favorite part of this unit, was the test. I am sure that a lot of people would agree with me, but I don't like to do a lot of writing down, and I much prefer to see things visually, and the was not a lot of that on the test.
3. The most challenging part of this unit in my opinion, was part 3 of the test. A lot of that, I didn't really know what to do, and I was stuck on a lot of them. It took me a while to get through, and I annoyed me, because I was whizzing through parts 2 and 1.
4. We could improve it by spending more time on it in class, because it is quite difficult to E-mail back and forth, because sometimes there is someone in your group that checks their E-mail every blue moon. And in class, you just need to speak... and they know instantly.
5. This approach helped me, because I was able to work on as much practice that I saw fit, and if I felt I wasn't learning enough, then I could always practice at home, and increase your amount of work next lesson.

If we had a different location, that would be a bit better. For example, the exam hall because it would have a more market like feel to it and every stall would be there. Maybe making the groups a bit bigger would be better too.

What things could be improved upon if the Market Day Simulation is used again for next year's Grade 7's?
Doing the market day in the exam hall would give it a more realistic feeling then going in and out of class rooms.
Toward the end of the unit, Mr. Jobe allowed you to choose which assignments to complete, giving you the opportunity to complete as much or as little as you saw fit in order to prepare you for the 3-part test. Did this approach help or hurt you as a learner? Why?

ReplyDelete2. My least favorite part of the unit was doing the common assessment after the Market Day Project, where we had to record everything we did. In this, my group had confusions, because we all had different calculations. Instead, we could have done it as a group.
3. The most challenging part of the unit in my opinion was phase 1, where we had to do the conversions of all the ingredients. We had some complications later on as well, because we did not do some of the conversions correctly. Our group had to get some help in this part of the Market day project.
4. Some things that could be improved upon if Market Day simulation is used again for next year’s grade 7, is that they could allow us to go to all of the classrooms in the hall rather than just a few. Also, they could allow us to cook our products in school, because it was hard to collaborate.
5. I think that this helped me, because I chose to do most of the activities, but was not good for some students, as they chose not to do the activities, and then struggled on the test. Next time, it would be better for the teachers to say that everyone has to do all the activities.
1. My favourite part of this unit was the market day. This was because we got a chance to apply what we learned in class to a reality situation. For example, we learned how to set a wholesale price, and how to raise the wholesale price by at least 100% so that we make a sufficient amount of profit. We also got a chance to mark up our prices, and give discounts depending on how well our sales were going for each round.
ReplyDelete2. I found the concept of compound interest quite confusing at first, but when we got a chance to practice it a little bit, became more confident with it.
3. I think that the most challenging part of this unit was being able to calculate wholesale prices, keeping our expenses low, and being able to mark-up our wholesale prices in market day so that we made some profit. I found Phase 1 and Phase 2 quite challenging.
4. I think that next year in market day, we could be allowed to talk to our group members during the evaluation.

3.The most challenging part was the extension work, because it made me think more, and I am really not that good at math.

5.It helped me, because instead of making everybody do one thing, we could focus on the areas that we were not so strong on.

ReplyDelete2. I didn't really have a least favourite because I didn't mind doing what was needed to be done.
3. I think the most challenging part was the calculations and the phase 1 and phase 2.
4. I think that this years market day simulation was very good and doesn't need to improve at all.
5. I think that when Mr. Jobe let us choose what we could do it helped me because you should learn the way you want to not in a way that you don't like or can't do
My favorite part of the unit was The Reflection on Market Day. I enjoyed reviewing all the calculations and summarizing the whole thing to finish the project. I also found it funny how much profit I made (96 cents) because it was such little profit.
ReplyDeleteI did not like the unit test because it was a lot to do in a double period and it was such a long unit that we studied for. I also found that the extension questions were really hard and I didn’t get enough time to finish all of them.
Doing all the calculations for phase 1. It was challenging because you had to find all the prices online and do the calculations to find how much you needed and deduct or increase the price.
I think we could have had better money. The sheet got very messy and confusing after a while.
I think that for me I would have done more work with Mr. Jobe telling us what to do, but in the end I still managed to get some work done and I think that he class didn’t get to carried away with the idea of not following instructions.

My favourite part of this unit was Market day because we could experience handling real life problems such as marketing/business with this unit (percentages decimals fractions).I also found it useful how we could learn how to make a profit and dealing with money (fake). i didn't really have a least favourite, but if i had to choose one I would choose Working on work sheets for it isn't too fun and interesting and sometimes a bit hard. I found the compound interest a bit hard to understand for we did it in one lesson but interesting and useful to know. I think market day would have been better if we were a bit more organised with our calculations and neater during market day for our group members were confused about the results and we recieved different answers at some point. I think it's not my thing where there r choices for i don't know which activity would be more helpful.
ReplyDelete1. My favourite part of the unit was the actually the market day project. Because of the food.

4. I think that we should use real money and donate it.
5. I think it was a good idea because people are at different places and they should learn what they want to learn.
