ReplyDelete1.Algebra is a very new topic to me and I do not know much about it. I think variables are used for substituting numbers when the number's value is unknown. I don't know much vocabulary but I do know equation, brackets, integers and formula.
2. I feel scared of algebra as it seems very complicated and I am relatively new to the unit. I think I feel this way because Algebra seems very hard.
3. 2 actionable ways I can make sure I am performing my best over the last month of term is practice sums at home and revise what we do in class.
1) I know that in algebra focuses on when you call a number something other than it is, and so the question isn't to find the answer, it's to find the numbers that are in disguise. I have no clue whatsoever a variable would be in a mathematical sense, and I don't know any of the proper terms for the sums and disguised numbers in algebra.
ReplyDelete2) I feel quite confident about algebra, as I have studied it before, and I have some ideas how to do the actual sums. I have never studied any vocab before, and I wouldn't know what to call things.
3) I can try my hardest to apply my prior knowledge to the algebra that we will be learning in this unit, and I will need to learn from others, and Mr.Jobe, (and of course the trusty vocab sheet) what to call the things that I learn.

I only know a few thing about Algebra. BEDMAS, a bit of basic notation, and a few vocals such as: Formula, constant, equation, simplifying, brackets. I also know how to use BEDMAS to help me solve equations.
ReplyDeleteWhen I think of Algebra, the things which come to my mind are things like: Confusing, Hard equations, strange words and thing like that. I feel that Algebra is a useful skill but I find it very hard and confusing. I think I think of that because in almost every year when I do algebra very confusing and hard.
I could not talk to friends so that I hear everything Mr. Jobe is saying, also I could practice doing some work at home so I can apply my skills and so I wont forget them.
For number 1) I already know vocabulary like simplify, factors, brackets, expand ect.. I can figure out a simple algebraic equation but Im not too good at algebra
ReplyDeleteI know that algebra often uses variables such as; a,b and x. Variables are used for substitution of a number. I know a couple of the vocabulary such as; Equation, Simplify, Variable and Brackets.
ReplyDeleteI feel a bit nervous about algebra because I think this unit is going to be difficult because last year when we were doing algebra the teacher explained it to a level which I didn’t understand.
By finding out more about algebra methods and finding the definitions and where to use some of the listed vocabulary.
1) I can't remember much about algebra since I haven't done it last year. I remember BEDMASS. I know that algebra uses letters (I think these are called variables) to represent numbers. I don't remember any specific vocabulary.
ReplyDelete2) I have always enjoyed the algebra unit because I find it fun and I like doing the equations and problems. I also think I like it because I feel that I am quite good at this unit.
3) I will focus during class and try to do my best in class and in my homework.
1) I know that substitution is used to place and alphabet instead of a number to make the equation more easy. an alphabetic character representing a number which is unknown, that leads to the answer I know the definitions of vocabulary such as equations, formulae, expression, brackets, variables.
ReplyDelete2) I feel that algebra can be a little bit confusing at times when the vocabulary gets hard to understand but it is quite interesting. I think this way because algebra is a knew unit for me.
3) I think I need to practice algebra and listen more in class.
1.I remember that algebra uses the alphabets to represent numbers. I also remember what BIDMASS is. I also know the letters are called variables.I can expand brackets and do basic algebra. I do not remember much of the vocabulary.
ReplyDelete2. I find algebra fun and interesting, when I think of algebra I think of alphabets and also I feel like I could get a seven in the test! I feel this way because I have study lots of algebra and also remember most of the work from last year
3. My goals are to try and focus in class and take notes for efficiency so that I could do well in the test
1) I know how to solve a 1 step equation. I kind of know how to simplify basic algebraic expressions and expand single bracket. i don't really know what variables are used for. I don't know any vocabulary except for 1 called variables.
ReplyDelete2) I feel nervous because it is hard to do and i don't want to get left behind
3) I come to class focused and ready to start. Also I try the best I can to do the homework assignments.
I know that algebra is a branch of math that is used to find out the answers to problems using variables. Variables are the letters that are used to represent numbers in an equation. I know how to find out the answers to simple equations using variables. I can also expand brackets and also simplify them. I don't know many vocabulary words.
ReplyDeleteI am fine with algebra but sometimes I get a little bit confused about the order of operations so sometimes my calculations are incorrect because I forget about what to do first. This is because in really complicated equations with a lot of numbers, it seems overwhelming so then I forget about what we have to do.
To make sure I'm performing my best over the last month of term, I can practice some algebra equations using math sites or worksheets like manga high and things like that. I can also review my notebook once in a while so that I don't forget what we have been learning and it stays inside my brain.
I haven't really learned Algebra before, just one lesson last year. Since I don't know much I can't really do a lot but I do know it's confusing and you have to double check your work and understand the vocab. I don't know a lot of vocab, just a couple words like brackets, and equations etc.
ReplyDeleteI honestly feel nervous about learning it since I haven't had much experience learning Algebra but I'm willing to understand the concepts and learn a lot.
I can double check my working so I don't get things wrong and I can focus on the task given.
I know the words.... variables, expressions, equations, simplify, and expand. Variables are letters used in place of numbers in an expression or equation. I don't like algebra because there are lots of integers equations expressions and its really confusing but algebra is kind of easy for me. I think I can focus more and try to ask questions if I don't understand something,
ReplyDelete1) I know that algebra there are substitutions and BEDMAS and integers are involved in algebra. I know how to solve some equations but I have not got to using fractions in equations. I am not comfortable in rearranging equations and moving numbers and variables to" the other side". Variables are there to represent the missing numbers in an equation. Vocab I know: variable, formula, expression, expand, inverse, equation, simplify, brackets, substitute and integers.
ReplyDeleteI like algebra because there is always a lot to learn and it's fun to do
I think to best over the last month I will put in a lot more effort and try my best. I will also participate more in class discussions and if I don't understand something i will definitely ask the teacher.
1) I have done algebra before but i forgot some stuff so i have to work harder to keep up with the group. I have done one and two step equations before.
ReplyDelete2) I dont feel very comfortable with algebra becuase there are just way too many letters and numbers sometimes. I think i feel this way because i think that most problems are hard
3) I dont want to chat to people in the middle of a lesson i want to do work and I want to spend more time doing my homework in all subjects so its not just an improvement for math.
1) I only know a few things about Algebra. From earlier experience, I know a bit about substitution, I can expand and simplify equations, I can identify the variables and I know how to use BEDMAS to help me solve algebraic expressions. I can do most of the things I have just listed, but I am only a novice at substitution. From what I know, variables are used to represent something. For example in an algebraic expression if I were to say 3a = 9, 'a' would be the variable representing 3 (?). Some of the vocabulary we discussed in class today was not very clear to me. These are some words that I know - substitution, simplification, variable, brackets, expressions, and equations.
ReplyDelete2) I actually quite like algebra. I understand most of the vocabulary and can easily solve equations/expressions, but I need to be reminded how to do them from time to time. When I think of algebra, I do think of confusing sums and equations, but they may look intimidating, but they are actually quite fun to solve. I think I feel this way because I have had quite a lot of practice on Algebra, and I think once you understand all the concepts, the idea is very straight forward.
3) I think one way that I can make sure I perform my best for this last month of the term, would be to try my best. I almost always try my hardest and put in a lot of effort, but even though this is quite a simple topic for me, I will not slack off. I will practice a few equations once in a while, because remembering concepts is one thing I struggle in, and I will ask the teacher about anything I am unsure about. Overall, I am looking forward to learning Algebra this term, and will hopefully have a successful outcome from my learning.

ReplyDelete1) I know a lot about algebra already because I did a lot of revision of this topic in the holidays. I know how to simplify algebraic equations, expand single brackets, solve one and two step equations and I know how to create one step equations from word problems. I have little understanding of variables but I do not know much vocabulary.
2) When I first started algebra last year, I was quite scared and nervous about the topic because I had never done the topic but now, I am very confident because I revised during the summer holidays and I have a clear understanding of this topic.
3) I can try listening to the teacher when he talks in class and I can revise at home so that I am confident for any qui or test that is given to me.
I know that algebra is a way to find out problems and question and is used almost in everyday life. I can already do substitution and simplifying. The vocabulary I already know is variable, coefficient, formula, expression, constant, equation, simplify and brackets.
ReplyDeleteWhen I think of algebra I think of long hard problems because when you read an algebraic equation it as many letter and numbers that confuse you and also everyone says it hard.
To succeed in algebra I will revise and do my homework and ask questions in class.
1) I know that algebra mainly uses alphabets to represent them as numbers if the number the alphabets are using is unnknown. I can use those in equations and fractions. Variables are used to substitute the numbers that are unknown. I do not know much vocabularies, but I might be able to use them.
ReplyDelete2) I feel quite confident in algebra, since I learnt them in my tuitions last year in Grade 6. But I also underestimate my abilities, because in Grade 7, it has to be more difficult than what I learnt last year on my tuition.
3) The 2 mains things I am performing best are:
• Doing homework the day it was set (because I want to finish it while what I learnt in the day is still left in my head.
• Studying and doing my best in my tests and also do my best to get the best grades I can possibly get. But if I get bad scores in my test and I studied well, I won't mind too much because I noticed that tests are for what people learn from their mistakes and do better next time.
I know that in algebra you a lot of the time need to find out what the letters in the expression mean to be able to find out what the final answer is. I already know some things about bedmas and how to work out what the letters mean in the equation shown. I feel that algebra can be very confusing at times but some equations i find very easy. The usage of letters in equations and big hard questions. I think the reason is that I have seen my sister in 11 grade do algebra. Not to talk in class so you can listen and be able to take good note.
ReplyDelete1. I know that in algebra you have to use letters to represent numbers e.g 3+A=5 (A=2). I also know that when writing multiplication you should try to not write the multiplication sign (x) because the person who is solving the equation might get mixed up with the letters and the multiplication sign. I also know that when using a division sign you shouldn't use the division sign (÷), you should put it in a fraction form. e.g. 3+5/A. The other thing is that you should use 'BEDMAS' when finding an equation.
ReplyDelete2. I don't really like algebra because it can get very confusing.
3. I will try and participate more and to focus more during class time.
I already know how to expand, simplify and substitute. I am quite familiar with algebra but I don't know all the vocabularies. I know basic vocabs like expand, simplify, substitute, brackets, variable, formula, equations, expressions etc. When I do algebra I feel frustrated at times but when I solve the equations I feel relieved and proud of myself. This is the reason why I am ok with algebra. I think I could improve by being more organised and participating more in class.
